CHANGE YOUR LIFE continues the build-up to THE NEW CLASSIC, Iggy’s hotly anticipated debut album, coming soon. Meanwhile, Iggy is set to join Beyoncé for three weeks on “The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour” of Iggy’s native Australia in October-November. (Please see tour dates below.)
The release of CHANGE YOUR LIFE is announced on the heels of Iggy’s appearance at this year’s MTV VMAs, where she was a presenter and was also nominated in the competitive Artist To Watch category for her “Work” video. (Earlier this year, Iggy was musical guest on MTV’s late-night Nikki & Sara Live show.) The video for “Work” is one of the BIG stories of 2013, with 20 million YouTube views, as it continues to pick up over 1 million views per week. The “Work” single rose to Top 40 at Rhythm radio. Check out the “Work” video here.
“Work” marked Iggy’s first official single release after two prior mixtapes and a six-song EP. Transplanted from her native red dirt Australian outback at age 16 – to Miami, Atlanta, and finally Los Angeles – Iggy struck a sympathetic chord with “Work,” an autobiographical tale that traces her odyssey from hardscrabble scrub girl to headliner.
Her rhymes told the story: “Walk a mile in these Louboutins/ but they don't wear these shits where I'm from/ I'm not hating, I'm just telling you/ I'm tryna let you know what the fuck I've been through/ 2 feet in the red dirt, school skirt/ sugar cane, back lanes, 3 jobs, took years to save/ but I got a ticket on that plane/ People got a lot to say, but don't know shit bout where I was made/ Or how many floors that I had to scrub/ Just to make it past where I am from. . .”
Iggy (who turned 23 on June 7th) pulls no punches, citing broken dreams and bad deals, until, “slept cold on the floor recording/ at 4 in the morning,” she finally boarded her spaceship into the music industry that now embraces her. With the success of “Work” and the upcoming arrivals of CHANGE YOUR LIFE and THE NEW CLASSIC, Iggy declares, “This dream is all that I need/ cause it's all that I ever had.”
