(Sept. 24, 2013 – New York, NY) Critically acclaimed 19-year old British singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, the youngest male artist in UK chart history to debut at #1 with his first album, has completed work on his second album,SHANGRI LA, which is set to arrive January 14th on Island Records in the U.S., with sneak peek 5 song EP available November 18th. The video for “What Doesn’t Kill You,” New track from SHANGRI LA, will premiere tomorrow on VEVO, and will go up for sale at iTunes on September 30th.
Jake is currently in the midst of a sold out U.S.tour that will include performances on TBS’s Conan with Conan O’Brien on October 1st, and upcoming Front and Center special on PBS this fall. (To date, Jake has appeared in the U.S. on CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman, NBC Universal’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.) The tour winds down with two separate performances at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas on October 4th and 11th. Jake will return to the U.S. top of the year with a headline tour kicking off January 8th at The Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA.
“With echoes of Bob Dylan, Oasis and Don McLean in his soulful voice,” raved USA Today earlier this month about the SHANGRI LA sessions, “Brit sensation Bugg is hoping to follow up his praised debut disc with tunes recorded in Malibu with producing guru Rick Rubin.” Jake called the studio hideaway an “inspiring spot,” and Rubin a “chilled-out guy.” He told USA Today that Rubin communicates “simply and effectively. He’ll say something like, ‘Why don't you repeat that line on the chorus?’ And I’ll go, why didn't I think of that?”
His eponymous debut album, Jake Bugg, released April 9th in the U.S. on Island Records, was awarded an ultra-rare 4-star album review from Rolling Stone, who declared it “a small revelation” with “vivid storytelling. . . For a teenager’s debut, Jake Bugg shows an artist who is crazy fully formed, stepping into a journey that should be worth following.”
The album release was followed up with April appearances on Letterman, Ellen, and Leno; and Jake was named MTV’s “Artist To Watch” for May. Millions more have been hearing Jake’s music on the television spot for Gatorade, featuring “Lightning Bolt,” the opening song on the Jake Bugg album. Check out the clip HERE.
