"Wake Me Up" is also #1 at both Hot AC and Adult Alternative, marking the first time an electronic dance artist has hit #1 at three radio formats.
“Wake Me Up” (described as “insanely catchy” by Rolling Stone) hit #1 in 73 countries, including the UK where it set a new record for the fastest-selling single of 2013. In its 20th week on the Hot 100, “Wake Me Up” has logged 280 million YouTube views, and global single sales north of 7 million!
"Avicii's debut album certainly proves there is no limit to his musical reach,” says David Massey, President of Island Records. "The incredible and ground-breaking success of 'Wake Me Up' further confirms Avicii's artistry and worldwide appeal."
"The unprecendented, multi-format success of 'Wake Me Up' is truly impressive," adds Rick Sackheim, EVP of Promotion. "When we first heard the single we knew it was something very unique and I couldn't be more proud of our team for taking it all the way."
Blasting off to radio this week is “Hey Brother,” the second U.S. single from Avicii’s debut album, TRUE (released September 17th). The song was produced and co-written by Avicii and features vocals by renown bluegrass singer/composer Dan Tyminski (Union Station).
Following up his sold-out headlining show at the Hollywood Bowl, Avicii was voted Best Electronic Artist at Sunday night’s MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Amsterdam, besting a highly competitive field that included fellow nominees Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, and Skrillex. Coming up, Avicii is nominated for Favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist at the American Music Awards, airing November 24th live on ABC, and is also nominated for Favorite Male Artist at the People’s Choice Awards, airing January 8th.
